In the heart of the enchanting rolling meadows, resided a boy named Shepherd. His life was mostly unadulterated, and read more unsophisticated. His primary duty was essentially to look after his flock of ewes.

Their soft bleating and the murmuring of the wind through the lone tree on the mountaintop were his main companions. Day after day, watching over his charges imbued in him a sense of calm satisfaction.

However, there were the occasional moments of isolation, when the shepherd boy would long for fellowship. In one such instance out of sheer boredom, the shepherd boy conceived a mischievous plot.

Tales of wolves preying on sheep had been heard times and again in the town. So, the boy opted to used this fear and played a trick on the inhabitants.

One afternoon he raced into the village yelling “Wolf! A wolf is attacking my sheep!” The frightened villagers ran up the hills for rescue but saw nothing threatening.

The boy chuckled at the dilemma on their faces. This game persisted for a few days more. Yet, one morning, a real wolf did charge at the flock. The shepherd boy raced for aid shouting “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one responded.

Frustrated and alone, the boy fought against the wolf but managed to rescue only few of his flock. Heartbroken, he went back to the village only to receive a lesson on honesty and the results of crying wolf.

The story of this shepherd boy has been handed down generations as a mediaeval parable for teaching the significance of honesty, the consequences of lying and the risks of crying wolf. Moreover, it stresses how trust once lost, is difficult to regain. It's a story as relevant today as it was anciently.
